THE NETWORK OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN FOR BRIGHTON & HOVE

Volunteer-led, the Network of International Women for Brighton & Hove serves as a vibrant platform, uniting women from various cultural backgrounds. Our regular gatherings at different city venues offer opportunities for meaningful connections, fostering the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and support among women. Through shared meals, information, and ideas, we actively contribute to building friendships and promoting inclusivity within our city.

We’re walking around our city and the surrounding area to explore the many parks and places of special interest. The walks take place fortnightly after our Jubilee Library sessions on a Wednesday.

“I lost my family in Syria, I was scared that I don’t have anyone here…... I started to cook and when I cook and help, I feel I am cooking for my family. Thank God I have found another family here.”

"It’s broadened my horizons and opened my eyes to some of the issues that people are facing in a very personal way – it’s one thing to read about things, but to actually meet people to whom these things are really happening and to realise the impact of changes in immigration laws and that sort of thing, and the dreadful impact that it has on people’s lives, to understand how in a real way it affects people."

"Lovely group and we still do things – lots of things to do with food as well, which is really nice. So there was the picnic in Hove, and the celebration in the church in Hove, with food and dance. Different foods that I hadn’t tried."

"I know that because of the space I was in, that actually being involved with a group of women it was a very safe nurturing place to be and I can just be myself, and then gradually, the more I got involved with the group, the more I found that my confidence and self-esteem was growing."

"I’ve loved the inclusivity of the group, and that everyone is so welcoming, and that everybody’s views are valued and important. It’s just sort of – I think it’s quite special to Brighton."
